I am Georgia Miller, and I am running for County Commissioner District 1 in Grays Harbor County, Washington.  I have lived in Grays Harbor for the majority of my life and I love this community!  The people of Grays Harbor are some of the most generous, hardworking and resilient people I've ever met.  I'm committed to working hard to make our communities safety top priority!

Being a business owner in this economy has forced me to be creative with everything from lowering costs and looking for new revenue opportunities to finding ways to increase employee retention.  I have had a lot of experience balancing budgets through my service on numerous boards throughout Grays Harbor.

With my experience, ability to work with others as well as my dedication to finding solutions, I know I can make a difference for our community.

 ISSUES

Public Safety and Law Enforcement
As a County Commissioner, my job first and foremost is to manage and approve budgets.  In the budget process, my priority is to fund Public Safety and Law Enforcement.  Those are the most fundamental roles of local government.  I have spoken to a lot of people
throughout Grays Harbor.  Many are deeply concerned about crime and their personal safety.  I am a strong advocate for fair and just law enforcement.
Homelessness and Addiction
Mental health issues and addiction are at the forefront of the problems plaguing American cities.  We can't hope to solve this problem without offering proper drug rehabilitation and mental health services.  Simply moving homeless people into certain areas doesn't work; it's unsafe for law enforcement, emergency services, neighbors, business owners and the homeless individuals themselves.  We need a plan that brings together and involves all parts of our community.  Our towns, organizations, and regular citizens, working together, can come up with real solutions that help, instead of making things worse.

Fiscal Responsibility
As elected officials, we have to remember that the money we're spending comes from the taxpayers. It's not the elected official's money.  We have a duty to the public to act as responsible stewards of their finances.  We must ensure we allocate funds judiciously and maintain a balanced budget. I'm a local business owner.  I've learned to manage finances so that my employees are taken care of.  I do this with a realistic budget that makes sense.  Most citizens do this in their own homes.  We can do it at the county level.
